“Easy to work with, along with an awesome sound! What more could you ask for. Bringin’ the spirit of Appalachia to Northern VA. Groove is the place to be.” – Jake Pauly of Cabin in the Hood.
Shawn Hatfield opened Groove: Music Lessons + Recording in June 2015 after graduating with a Music Business degree from Radford University. The first Groove address was located at 205 Edwards Ferry Rd Leesburg, Va. He shared the space with his mother’s hair salon business until 2018.
Hatfield moved the studio to 4 Royal St Leesburg just across town and dangerously close to local restaurants and coffee shops. Hatfield and his wife moved to Purcellville, Va and after running the business until August 2019, he decided to shut Groove’s doors. He took up a full time guitar technician and sales position at a music shop in Sterling. Groove no longer had a commercial space operation but Shawn continued to take on projects in his home studio.
Things were put on hold when COVID-19 hit. It was difficult to book recording sessions but mixing and mastering kept flowing. Hatfield received an offer from Mike Pugh to operate his Groove out of Mike’s studio, Goose Creek Music in Purcellville.
